Visit this ancient site with impressive remains of roads from different eras, an ancient spring and a large, impressive Ziziphus tree, a steep and short climb to a sandstone hill revealing beautiful views and for dessert ?......... jump and roll down the red sand dunes!
The Tamar Hamikrait (biblical date) is a fascinating site where you can explore a large restored site from the First Temple period through the Roman period to the Nabataean era.
The site is located on the ancient and famous Incense Route that runs from the Arabian Peninsula to the Mediterranean.
After visiting the site, which includes a rest in the shade of the large and ancient Ziziphus tree , take a short and enjoyable hike to Hatzeva Hill, a sandstone hill that offers spectaculars view towards the northern Arava, Edom Mountains and even the small crater.
The hike is easy and suitable for the whole family, where you can enjoy the beautiful and unique desert views and even enjoy rolling back down on the red sand dunes!
Our Recommendation: Hike near dusk to avoid the heat and to enjoy the desert scenery and Edom Mountains at their best.
How to get there? Drive to the car park at the bottom of the hill, from there take the red marked footpath, followed by the black marked footpath to lead you back.
