The Peres River is located on the border of the Judean desert and the northern Arava. The river is an important source of water for the desert wildlife.
Beginning the route, we will descend to extraordinary cisterns which are an important source of water for gazelles, deer, nocturnal predators and other wildlife. As we continue, past the waterfall that descends from the cisterns, the path re-connects to the ravine and we will ascend to take in a breathtaking view of the Dead Sea Valley and the northern Arava. On the southeast side of the viewpoint, we can see the ravines of Kikar Sdom and the large rivers that drain the Northern Arava and Kikar Sdom – the Zin River, the Amatzia River and the Arava River. The farm lands mark the location of Moshav Neot Hakikar and Moshav Ein Tamar communities. Looking eastward, one can clearly see the majestic Jorden oasis – Safi (the location of the biblical Zoar), the meeting point of the Edom Mountain Range with the Moav Mountain Range and the impressive Zered River separating these, is quite visible on clear days. To the northeast – the Dead Sea, the Dead Sea Works and Mount Sdom. From the view point, we descend on the marked path south, towards the Arava Junction.
