Moa is a beautiful archeological site exhibiting three historical periods - the Nabatean, Roman and Arab periods, however it is mainly recognized as a Nabatean fortress, situated on the famous Incense Route that stretches from the Arabian Peninsula to the Mediterranean and recognized in 2005 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The Nabatean Moa, or Moa Khan was a Nabatean city in the Arava region, which operated as a crossroads on the Incense Route in the Nabatean kingdom during the Roman period.

Excavations were carried out at the site where an ancient Khan was revealed and a 2-meter-high fortress, desert farming facilities including a spring, a storage pool covered in plaster and the remains of an aqueduct remains. The highlight of the excevations revelaed a unique olive press that produced Roman-style olive oil.

Our Recommendation: Come visit and explore one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Israel. After climbing to the top try to imagine the vibrant life that existed here in the past and enjoy spectacular views.

How to get there? An unpaved road marked with black markings west of Route 90, south of Moshav Tzofar, approximately 5 km drive.
